Hey there, Freedom students!  I hope you had a great weekend, I sure did!  Today’s TOEIC vocabulary word comes from our English Newspaper board at the Hitachinaka branch.  Have you stopped by to take a look recently?  Please feel free to have a look before or after class, and take your questions to your teacher!

To bloat (v)–to swell up, to become swollen or stretched outwards

“When you take this medicine, please drink lots of water to prevent bloating.”

What do you think?  Can you use this word in a sentence?  It is very tricky, since we use it usually in a negative sentence.  For example, we may use it to describe an uncomfortable fat feeling: “I feel bloated.”  Alternatively, we also use it to explain swelling after death: “The body of the dead rat was bloated due to the heat.”
