Hello there, Freedom students! I hope you are doing well today. Today, I have a bit of a culture thought about the difference between American and Japanese holidays in the spring. Are you ready?
As I’m sure you all had a nice and relaxing Golden Week last week, I started thinking about spring holidays in the US. Unfortunately, there isn’t a similar break in America. For the most part, we have Spring Break, which is a holiday for grade school and college students. Those students get about one week off sometime in April (it changes depending on where you live).
Typically, grade students will stay home with family, or they will sometimes travel to fun places like the beach, Disney, or other attractions. College students typically go to a party city to drink, relax, and dance. For students, this is the last break before final tests start in May, so it is a well-needed break.
Adults, however, usually do not have Spring Break. Most companies do not give any holiday during the spring season. On occasion, companies will give Good Friday as holiday for those who celebrate Easter. Otherwise, adults working in companies must take personal time if they want to enjoy a spring vacation.
What do you think of that? Do you take GW for vacation every year? Do you like to travel, or do you stay home? Could you work for a company that doesn’t give a spring vacation? Let us know in the comments below, and stay tuned for more great English stuff!
