Sivananda Saraswati was a Hindu monk from India. He was born September 8, 1887 and was a very smart student. He attended medical school and practiced medicine for about 10 years before retiring. After he left medicine, he started a spiritual quest and became a monk in the Sannyasa order. He continued to help the poor and the sick, however.
Sivananda travelled throughout India to teach, and he eventually founded the Divine Life Society in 1936. In particular, he taught Yoga and Vedanta. He passed away in July of 1963.
